  • Why Street Photography is not Documentary Photography

    Look-up ‘Street Photography’ in Wikipedia and the attempt to define it starts with ‘Street photography (also sometimes called candid photography) is photography conducted for art or enquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents within public places.’. So why is it that today’s Street Photographers easily confuse it with Documentary photography. Is it really? Both Street Photography and Documentary photography are well understood traditions, so why is it that the former is so easily conflated for the latter?
